Clear braces

Less-noticeable than metal braces

At Oread Orthodontics, we’re proud to offer ceramic braces to our patients in Lawrence, Topeka, and surrounding areas! Also known as clear braces, tooth-colored braces, or aesthetic braces, these work just like metal braces. Our clear braces are designed to be less noticeable on your teeth than metal braces. They’re smaller than ever and made of nearly invisible tooth-colored polycrystalline ceramic material.

All about clear braces

Clear braces are also referred to as ceramic braces, tooth-colored braces, or aesthetic braces and they work the same way metal braces do. These ceramic options blend in well with your natural smile. Though they’re not completely invisible, and the brackets are about the same size and shape, they’re much less noticeable than metal braces.

These braces offer patients a more discreet treatment option, however, they can sometimes be slightly more fragile and more expensive than metal braces. Because of this, Dr. Wood typically recommends them for older teen and adult patients.

Your look, your choice.

Hide your clear braces or show them off by adding bright colors. Even though most of our Oread Orthodontics patients in clear braces love how discrete they are, we do have some teens and adults who like to use colored ligature ties. This gives braces an almost neon look. The colors pop off the clear brackets, creating a unique look most people haven’t seen before.

It’s up to you to let your braces blend in or be bold. Color your smile or be invisible!

The differences between ceramic & metal braces

Clear braces fit your lifestyle. You can now enjoy all the advantages of metal braces while keeping your treatment discreet.

If you need more drastic corrections, Dr. Wood may determine metal braces could be a better option. Adjustments with clear braces have to be slightly smaller, so it can take a little more time to align your teeth.

However, both types of braces work on the same principles and tend to be equally effective in most cases.

Cost of clear braces

One of the biggest factors that affect the cost of your treatment will be the materials used to make your braces. In our Lawrence and Topeka offices, ceramic brackets cost a little more than metal brackets. The good news is that we offer flexible payment plans and automatic bank drafts, and we will also check with your insurance company for orthodontic benefits. Our goal is to provide outstanding value for reasonable fees!

Treatment fees will vary depending on the complexity of your orthodontic treatment. Dr. Wood will determine a treatment fee that fits your specific orthodontic needs, and our office will do everything we can to accommodate you and your budget. The work it takes to put your braces on, adjust them, and take them off must also be factored into the total cost of treatment. Placing and removing clear braces are more sensitive to technique and require more time.

Our treatment coordinators will be happy to go over the cost with you at your first free consultation.

Clear braces vs. Invisalign®

Clarity Advanced clear braces are an Invisalign® alternative. Clear braces are perfect for the patient who doesn’t want them to stand out but also doesn’t want the responsibility of Invisalign. Many orthodontic movements are too difficult for Invisalign alone so adding clear braces is a good combination.

Invisalign®

  • Removable and only working when in the mouth
  • Must remove to eat and drink so greater chance of loss
  • Cannot predictably achieve more complex tooth movements
  • Self-motivated treatment

Clear braces

  • Braces glued on and always working

  • Not removable so can't lose Invisalign

  • More effective for complex movements

  • Less self-discipline is needed to achieve results
